The City of Syracuse Board of Mechanical Examiners requires a minimum of ten years of experience for a Class A Master Mechanical License, of which five years must have been working directly on installation and maintenance of the equipment and systems for the class applied for and three of those five on new construction of commercial or industrial installations. Class B and Class C require a minimum of five years of experience directly related to the heating, ventilating and air conditioning industry, of which at least three years must have been working directly on installation and maintenance of those systems. One year of experience is defined as 2,000 hours. A mechanical license is granted by the Board on attaining a minimum score of 70 percent on the written examination.
